Welcome to Jake's Gym!

Hello everyone and welcome to Jake’s Gym OC!

This is my first post so I would just like to start off by introducing myself, my background in regards to health and fitness, and what I hope to accomplish by putting out content for you all. I would like to extend an immense THANK YOU to each and every one of you for following me on my social media platforms so far!

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Jake Kinas and I recently graduated from California State University, Fullerton in the spring of 2016. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology, with an emphasis in Strength & Conditioning and a minor in Health Science. I spent the latter part of my undergrad career as an intern for the Strength & Conditioning Staff where I received hands on experience in learning to train our university’s athletes, covering all the D-1 sports programs offered by CSUF.

Within my emphasis, I also learned all types of subjects such as personal training, anatomy, nutrition, motor mechanics, and more. I am currently pursuing my certifications for CSCS (Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist), CISSN (Sports Nutrition), and FMSC (Functional Movement Screening).

I am a little uncertain about my future education plans, but intend to continue with my educational endeavors. In the meantime, I hope to produce some great material that will benefit you all and leave you feeling more confident in your ability to pursue all of your health and fitness goals optimally.

My intention for creating this website and getting involved in social media is to help the general public be better informed on anything and everything that pertains to health and fitness. I would love to assist anyone in their journey to improve their own health and quality of life. It seems these days that the fitness industry is shrouded in false claims and empty promises and I hope to bring back some of the quantifiable truth that has gone missing.

I’ve spent the past 5 years of my life not only learning the “why” behind everything relating to these topics, but also to prescribe them in a way that abides by the principles established within the field of Kinesiology. I have been so fortunate to spend the years of my undergrad learning from some of the brightest minds within the field. Those same minds that are currently coauthoring textbooks, training and testing elite athletes, and spending hours in the lab to find the most progressive methods for helping us reach our own personal goals. My purpose for all this is to give you all an outlet in which you can find new, relevant information, dispel any myths that currently frequent our social media, and to show you how I am applying the concepts/methods to my own journey within health and fitness.

I aim to give you quality material so that you will be able to utilize this information for yourselves. If there is anything you want to know about or things that you have heard but are unsure of, please feel free to leave a comment or message. I want to put out content that leaves you wanting more! And just remember, IT ALWAYS DEPENDS. A program that may be optimal for one person could also completely unsuitable for another. Keep that in mind as we go forward so that we may make sure this information is targeting the right audience. There is no one right or wrong way to train so keep an open mind and let’s make sure we grasp the principles first!

“As to the methods there may be a million and then some, but principles are few. The man who grasps principles can successfully select his own methods. The man who tries methods, ignoring principles, is sure to have trouble.”

- Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)

I wanted to put this post up now because I know 2017 is almost upon us and with a new year comes new goals and aspirations for all of us. Let’s bring in the New Year right and lay the ground work so that 2017 can be the year that you achieve the “you” you’ve always want to be! With that being said, I hope you all have very Happy Holidays and enjoy the time spent with those closest to you and I look forward to bringing you some awesome content very soon so stay tuned!
